After completing his cardiology studies and graduating in 2008, Dr. Mario Paniagua practiced privately in Mexico, notably in the cardiovascular intensive care unit. Thanks to his dedication and exceptional performance, he received a scholarship to complete a fellowship at the Montreal Heart Institute. In 2009, he worked there as a fellow in hemodynamics and echocardiography, while also pursuing specialized clinical training.
Since 2012, he has practiced at the CISSME Montérégie-Est, where he has played a key role in implementing various primary prevention programs in cardiology. He has also been actively involved in developing cardiology services in the Sorel-Tracy region. Known for his compassion, empathy, and commitment to his patients, Dr. Paniagua strives to maintain a practice centered on their well-being.
A member of the Collège des médecins du Québec and the Association des cardiologues du Québec, Dr. Paniagua offers his patients extensive expertise in clinical cardiology. He treats coronary artery disease, arrhythmias, valvular heart disease, and heart failure.
Dr. Marie-Chantal Audelin completed her cardiology residency at the University of Montreal in 2006, followed by a subspecialty in secondary prevention and cardiac rehabilitation. She completed a two-year fellowship in Burlington, Vermont, and holds a Master’s degree in Clinical Epidemiology from Harvard University, as well as a Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition from Laval University.
From 2008 to 2016, she practiced at the Quebec Heart and Lung Institute, where she established and directed the secondary prevention and cardiac rehabilitation program. Since 2016, she has practiced general cardiology in Montreal and on the South Shore, while maintaining a strong interest in prevention, cardiovascular risk assessment, and supporting patients in adopting healthy lifestyle habits.
Known for her compassionate and attentive approach, Dr. Audelin assesses and treats various cardiovascular problems such as coronary artery disease, valvular heart disease, heart failure, and arrhythmias, in addition to providing ongoing cardiac care for active and athletic patients.

This service aims to promote rapid access to cardiac surgery, including complete preoperative evaluation (turnkey), identification of subspecialty surgeons in Quebec if necessary, and identification/reduction of preoperative risk.

It goes without saying that heart surgery is a very important event in a person’s life. Seeking a second medical opinion after being diagnosed with a heart condition requiring surgery is completely normal and should never cause the patient any discomfort. Health professionals are aware that they are not infallible and that what is at stake for the patient is crucial, which is why very few of them will see recourse to a second medical opinion as a questioning of their expertise or their authority.
In a respectful and professional approach, Dr Maltais can proceed to the examination of the diagnosis and to a second evaluation of the patient which, in the end, either will confirm the first diagnosis or, if necessary, will call into question certain parts of it.
