Dr. François Morin

Orthopedic Surgeon

Dr. François Morin specialized in orthopedic surgery at Laval University from 1982 to 1986. He then specialized in hip and knee reconstruction surgery in Toronto in 1987. Since that time, he has been practicing at CHUL (Quebec City) and continued to develop his interest and passion for hip and knee pathologies. He has been in practice at the CIUSS-Université Laval since its founding.

Dr. Morin performs arthroscopy for meniscal tear and reconstruction of the anterior cruciate ligament by patellar tendon. He also practices hip resurfacing, for athletes who can return to their sport, often without restrictions, as well as the placement of hip prosthesis by direct anterior approach which allows recovery and a rapid return to activity. He also performs the fitting of knee prostheses which preserve the normal movement of the knee and allow in the majority of cases a return to sports activity.

Dr. Richard Lirette

Continuously seeking innovative solutions, Dr. Lirette has refined his expertise in the treatment of shoulder pathologies, with a particular focus on minimally invasive techniques such as arthroscopy. To date, he has performed more than 8,000 shoulder surgeries.

Shoulder rotator cuff tear

A rotator cuff tear is an injury that affects the tendons of the muscles located in the shoulder and used to initiate movement. It can occur either through wear and tear of the tendons due to repetitive daily actions, or following trauma.

Here is some information about the symptoms, causes and treatments of this condition.

Symptoms

Pain accompanied by an inability to raise the arm straight away are often the first symptoms. The shoulder can be painful with cracking during mobilization but it maintains a certain mobility without force. In some cases, the shoulder may have lost a lot of its mobility (pseudo-paralytic) and remain painful. It is important to consult quickly if a rotator cuff tear is suspected.

Causes

Rotator cuff tear can be of traumatic origin, mainly in young people, following an accident (for example, a fall from a bicycle, skiing or lifting effort. In older people, it can result from wear of the tendons of the cuff due to repetitive daily movements (for example in drywall masons, farmers, cashiers or caregivers.)  Around 55-60 years of age, these people whose tendons are worn can see their tendons rupture following a trivial action, such as pulling or carrying something heavy.

Dr. Bernard Laliberté

Dr. Bernard Laliberté graduated from the Faculty of Medicine at Université Laval in 1996, where he also completed his residency in orthopedic surgery in 2001. He then undertook an additional year of training in orthopedic trauma at the University of Texas at Houston.

From the summer of 2002 to June 2026, he practiced at the CHU de Québec (Enfant-Jésus Pavilion) in the orthopedics department. For nearly 10 years, he was also a member of the executive committee of the Quebec Orthopedic Association. For the past 15 years, Dr. Laliberté’s practice has primarily consisted of performing primary hip and knee replacements. In addition to hip and knee replacements, Dr. Laliberté also performs knee arthroscopies for meniscal tears and hand surgeries to treat carpal tunnel syndrome and trigger finger.

Dr. Laliberté is a member of the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada, the Quebec Orthopedic Association, and the College of Physicians of Quebec. With his compassionate and meticulous approach, he will do everything in his power to improve your quality of life by providing you with the best possible care.

Dr. Virginie Gauvreau

Orthopedic Surgeon

Dr. Virginie Gauvreau completed a bachelor’s degree in medical biochemistry in 2002 and then a master’s degree in biomaterials engineering (experimental medicine) in 2005, while beginning her studies for a doctorate in medicine. She then graduated from her 5-year specialty studies in orthopedic surgery at Laval University in 2012. Then, she completed a subspecialty in hip and knee reconstruction (adult) at the University of Western Ontario in 2013.

Her contribution to research has earned her numerous awards and recognitions. She is a member of the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada, the College of Physicians of Quebec, the Canadian Association of Arthroplasty Surgeons and the Association of Orthopedic Surgeons of Quebec.

She practiced for 8 years in Gaspésie before reorienting her career at Cliniques Lacroix in order to harmonize her professional practice with the realities of her young family. Her areas of surgical expertise include the knee (osteoarthritis, menisci, ACL, sprains), trigger finger, Dupuytren’s deformities, arthro-synovial nodules and cysts, bursitis, treatment of diabetic wounds, minor fractures.

Dr. Angers discusses in these video segments the knee and hip replacement surgeries performed as a same-day surgery, which she practices at our operating room in Quebec city.

Dr. Charles-Antoine Dion

Orthopedic Surgeon

Dr. Charles-Antoine Dion is an orthopedic surgeon specialized in hip and knee reconstruction as well as orthopedic traumatology. In addition to being part of the Lacroix team of orthopedic surgeons, he practices at the CIUSSS in Estrie at the Brome-Missisquoi-Perkins Hospital and is a clinical teaching professor affiliated with the University of Sherbrooke. He obtained his Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree in 2015 from the University of Ottawa and completed graduate studies in orthopedic surgery in 2020 at Western University. During his orthopedic residency, he completed his Master of Science in Surgery and published several scientific articles that were presented at international conferences.

Dr. Dion also completed subspecialty training in hip and knee reconstruction during his fellowship at the University of Ottawa. He also completed a subspecialty training in orthopedic traumatology at McGill University. The completion of this training gives Dr. Dion great versatility when dealing with complex cases. He is a member of the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada, the Collège des médecins du Québec, the Association d’Orthopédie du Québec, the Canadian Orthopedic Association, the Canadian Arthroplasty Society, the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons and the Trauma Association of Canada.

Dr. Dion performs total hip replacement, total or partial knee replacement, post-traumatic surgeries (non-union, malunion, arthrodesis, correction of deformities), sports knee surgeries by arthroscopy (anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction, meniscal repairs, menisectomies), as well as other minor surgeries for carpal tunnels, Dupuytren’s disease, cysts and trigger fingers.

Thanks to his extensive training in knee arthroplasty as well as his practice of direct anterior, direct lateral and posterior approaches to the hip, he is able to personalize each reconstruction to the anatomy and needs of his patients.

Dr. Maxime Gaudreault

Dr. Maxime Gaudreault completed his specialization in orthopedic surgery at the Université de Montréal in 2016. He also completed training in ultrasound-guided injections at Notre-Dame Hospital, in collaboration with physiatrists from the Quebec Physiatry Institute and the CHUM.

Since beginning his practice, Dr. Gaudreault has specialized in joint replacement surgeries of the knee, hip, and shoulder. He also performs sports medicine procedures, including ligament reconstruction of the knee and shoulder. He has practiced in several institutions, including Notre-Dame Hospital, Anna-Laberge Hospital of the Integrated Health and Social Services Centre of Montérégie-Ouest, and in traumatology at the Maria and Gaspé hospitals.

Dr. Gaudreault performs various procedures, including joint reconstruction of the hip, knee, and shoulder. He also performs sports medicine surgeries, including rotator cuff repair, shoulder stabilization surgery (Bankart or Latarjet), anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction, and hip and knee replacements. In addition, he performs carpal tunnel decompression surgery and trigger finger treatment.

Dr. Jessica Vachon

Dr. Jessica Vachon graduated from the Faculty of Medicine at Université Laval in 2008 and completed her residency in orthopedic surgery in 2013. She then pursued a subspecialty in lower limb arthroplasty and trauma at the University of Toronto from 2013 to 2014, where she performed over 800 surgeries. Since then, she has been practicing at Hôtel-Dieu de Lévis, focusing primarily on the management of primary and complex hip and knee arthroplasties.

An active member of the Collège des médecins du Québec and the Association d’orthopédie du Québec, Dr. Vachon specializes in total hip replacement using the posterior approach, total knee replacement, as well as arthroscopic knee surgeries, including meniscal repairs and meniscectomies. She also performs minor procedures such as carpal tunnel release, removal of cysts from the hand and wrist, and trigger finger release.

Recognized for her empathy, attentiveness, and dedication to her patients, Dr. Vachon adopts a personalized approach, taking into account each patient’s anatomical uniqueness to optimize functional outcomes. Dr. Sanjeev Sharma

Dr. Sharma is a highly experienced orthopedic surgeon specializing in adult hip and knee reconstruction. A graduate of McGill University’s Faculty of Medicine, he also completed his orthopedic surgery residency there before pursuing advanced postgraduate training in hip and knee reconstruction at the prestigious Lahey Clinic in Burlington, Massachusetts.

For over 17 years, Dr. Sharma has dedicated himself exclusively to the treatment of hip and knee osteoarthritis, performing more than 400 joint replacements annually, including complex and revision surgeries. He offers a comprehensive approach that combines surgical expertise with non-surgical treatments, including ultrasound-guided injections, hyaluronic acid injections, and cortisone injections.

Dr. Sharma is pleased to join the surgical team at Lacroix Private Practice, where he will contribute his expertise in the surgical and non-surgical management of hip and knee osteoarthritis. Direct anterior technique

Direct anterior hip replacement is a muscle-sparing technique, meaning that no major muscles are cut during the procedure. This allows for:

The anterior technique requires extensive training, with a minimum of 50 procedures to master. Results improve significantly with a larger surgical volume.
